Dentuman guruh bukan seketika, tetapi berhari-hari, berminggu-minggu. Memberikan penuh pengharapan bahawa hujan pasti turun.



Mulalah para petani yang telah sekian lama termenung melihat tanaman, kini cuba menggali lubang untuk dijadikan kolam bagi menakung air hujan.



Mereka tahu, di sini tiada sungai atau tempat terbit mata air untuk diempang airnya. Jika ada pun cukup sekadar untuk dijadikan makan dan minum, mandi pun tidak. Maka, mereka perlu bersiap sedia untuk itu. Peluang yang datang perlu dimanfaatkan sebaiknya.



Pada hujan nanti, di samping menadah air, mereka akan turut berlari atau berjalan, berdiri atau duduk, yang pasti berada dalam curahan hujan tersebut, kerana di situlah tempat untuk mereka mandi. Itu saja yang mereka idamkan.



Mereka tidak seperti pepatah orang dahulu, "mendengar guruh di langit, air di tempayan di curahkan", kerana mereka pernah bersekolah. Cikgu dah berpesan, jangan buat begitu, kelak nanti menyesal diri.



Bukan itu sahaja pesanan guru, macam-macam yang didengar. Maklumlah gurulah katakan, temberangnya juga dikategorikan ilmu. "Sesal dahulu berpendapatan, sesal kemudian tiada gunanya". Itu juga telah sebati dengan mereka.



Oleh kerana mereka sebegitu, mereka kini dalam keadaan sebegini. Susah juga hendak diceritakan kisah hidup ini, hendak dikatakan tidak beruntung, kerana merekalah orang lain dapat membeli hasil sayur-sayur yang ditanam, hendak dikata beruntung, sehingga kini, untungnya cukup sekadar yang ada.



Tetapi guru mereka ada berpesan, "berakit-rakit dahulu, berenang-renang ke tepian, bersakit-sakit dahulu, bersenang-senang kemudian.". Pepatah itu tetap mereka pegang, tetapi mereka masih tetap berakit-rakit, tidak tahu bila hendak berenangnya. Kuatir nanti tinggalkan rakit, buaya disungai kekenyangan.
